Acclaimed horror novelist Joe R. Landsdale is adapting his own book Lost Echoes (2007) into a feature film directed by Chef Joe Gatto (From Scratch!). And even better he’s bringing back none other than “Mr. Perfect Weapon”– Jeff Speakman in a role of a Martial Arts instructor and mentor of the main character Harry Wilkes. Landsdale already had a film adaptation of his novel, cult horror- comedy Bubba Ho-Tep starting Bruce Campbell (Evil Dead).
For Speakman, Kenpo Karate luminary and the star of Perfect Weapon, Expert and Street Knight this will be an acting comeback after 20 years– he didn’t appear in a film role since he played in the 2006 Striking Range featuring Lou Diamond Phillips.
The plot of the original book follows Harry Wilkes, a young man who develops a bizarre form of “hindsight” after a severe childhood illness. Triggered by specific sounds, he is forced to see and hear gruesome visions of violent crimes that occurred in the past wherever he stands.After turning to alcohol to numb his senses, he meets a down-on-his-luck former martial arts instructor who becomes his sensei, helping him master his gift and tackle a dark, dangerous conspiracy involving the murder of a childhood crush’s father.
