For those of you who are Hawk the Slayer (1980) fans (and I know you’re out there) we just wanted to let you know that the first issue (of 5 issue mini- series) Hawk The Slayer sequel comic is now on the shelves. Hawk comic will be a bonus supplement packed with Judge Dredd Megazine, starting with number #440. It’s also expected to be published as a stand alone series in April starting with Hawk The Slayer #01.

Comics is written by comic legend Garth Ennis (The Boys, Preacher, Punisher) and drawn by 2000 AD artist Henry Flint (who unlike Ennis who’s a long time fan never watched the movie until he got the assignment).

Sequels to Hawk The Slayer have a long history- Hawk the Destroyer (not the best name, considering how Conan the Destroyer turned out) was planned in 1981 but nothing came out of it. In 2015 there was another attempt with the title Hawk the Hunter but it ended in an unsuccessful Kickstarter campaign. Other options like a TV show were also floated but for the time being this comic series is the only sequel that ever got off the ground since the 80’s so you might want to check it out.

Me, I’ll probably just be sticking to my Death Stalker movies.

Even though I’ve been clamoring for a new Slasher renaissance for couple of years now this news took me by surprise. Logically after 2018’s Halloween made record bank I expected some other horror franchises to rise from their graves. That turned out to be a more of a crawl as new Nightmare on the Elm Street is supposedly on the way (but still far off), Friday the 13th was tied up with legal troubles ’till just few days ago and Child’s Play’s Chucky decided to make a jump from silver screen to TV (with actually a really cool SyFy series).

With all that in mind the last Slasher I expected to return was 1984’s funny, crazy and gory The Mutilator aka Fall Break that we gleefully dissected right here on WM. But life is sometimes stranger than fiction and none other than the original creator/ co-director Buddy Cooper is back to write and direct The Mutilator 2!

Back to MUTILATE some more !

Now, how they plant to bring the antagonist back when he was chopped up in two I have no idea but things like that haven’t stopped other franchises before (Jason Goes To Hell comes to mind). As far as cast is concerned Ruth Martinez and Bill Hitchock are back, along with Terry Kiser (Friday the 13th Part VII, From a Whisper to a Scream) and Damian Maffei (The Strangers: Prey at Night, Haunt).

Movie is in full pre-production mode and they are gearing up to shoot in early 2022. We can’t wait to see how it turns out- you can never get enough of 80’s style Slashers in my book.

And for those who missed it the first time around here’s our full review again , and you can see some of the best kills right here :

One of our favorites as far as restored 80’s films are involved Vinegar Syndrome are ready to take thing up another notch. They have acquired a negative of a lost 1984 Ninja movie, New York Ninja originally produced by Arthur Schweitzer (Mutant World, Night Terror). Shot in 35mm the project was abandoned during post- production and VS were forced to meticulously reconstruct the movie, edit and even dub the whole thing without the original script that was lost to time.

A telephone repair man (John Liu) unleashes his ninja roots in New York City to avenge the murder of his pregnant wife.

The lead (also the director) is very entertaining John Liu, Taiwanese Martial Arts actor, the star of such films as Secret Rivals (1976), The Invincible Armor (1977), Goddfrey Ho’s The Dragon, The Hero (1979) with Dragon Lee (+ Bolo Yeung cameo) and Made in China (1981) with another favorite Casanova Wong. This was to be his American debut.

Film was finished by producer/ editor Kurtis Spieler (The Devil’s Well). Without a script he had to figure out what he thinks actors are saying and write around that (something you don’t hear every day– maybe on some old Italian films).

Next they recruited an all-star cast of (voice) actors, all genre movie royalty. Names like Don “The Dragon” Wilson, Linnea Quiqley, Vince Murdocco, Leon Issac Kennedy, Ginger Lynn, Michael Berryman and last by not least “Lady Dragon” Cynthia Rothrock.

Final touch, soundtrack was provided by the Synth/ Rock trio Voyag3r that brings authentic 80’s feel to the movie:

Can’t wait for this one, I think we all need to reconnect with our Ninja roots.

Glenn Danzig‘s Death Rider in the House of Vampires had it’s official premiere in Westwood at the historic Regency Bruin Theater. Director and the cast were present for the Q & A after the screening and we also got these cool interviews with the star of the movie Julian Sands (Warlock)…

…and the director Glenn Danzig (Verotika) himself:

Vampire Spaghetti Western will open across the U.S. at select theaters on August 27. You can find if it’s playing in a theater near you on- https://deathridermovie.com/theaters/

We finally have the news on the release of Death Rider In the House of Vampires and Danzig fans rejoice because it’s coming to select theaters in US on 27th August. There will also be 2 advance screenings the week before in Las Vegas and Los Angeles.

Vampire Spaghetti-Western is Glenn Danzig‘s second feature film and has an all- star cast consisting of Julian Sands, Danny Trejo, Devon Sawa, Kim Director, Eli Roth and the man himself:

Our old acquaintance Brian Yuzna (Re-Animator, Society) is at it again! And he is actually working on a comic series which kinda makes sense when you think about it. I mean Yuzna movies did tend to be completely over the top and comicbooky as it gets.

Now, Tales of Blood Island is a tribute to the 60’s and 70’s B-horror movies made in Philippines, especially Eddie Romero/ Kane W. Lynn Blood Island series, consisting of Beast of Blood,  Terror Is a Man, Brides of Blood and The Mad Doctor of Blood Island. Interestingly Yuzna was actually born in Philippines so this is a bit of a full circle for him.

Yuzna single-handedly  bringing the tiki- horror back!

Comic series is written by Mark Cerulli and David Sehring, drawn by Stephen Sistilli and colored by Dexter Weeks based on concept art by Anthony Palumbo. You can see the Kickstarter campaign here. It has everything from comicbooks to t-shirts to tiki mugs. And if it proves to be a success I’m sure a Yuzna produced Blood Island movie is sure to follow.

First trailer for Glenn Danzig‘s Vampire- Spaghetti Western is now online and it’s all we’ve been expecting and more. Also, seeing Danny Trejo with vampire fangs (again) makes it worth the wait all by itself!

Death Rider in the House of Vampires follows the Death Rider, who travels to the desert Vampire Sanctuary, ruled by Count Holliday. The price of admission… one untouched virgin.

Movie features the talents of Devon Sawa (Final Destination, Casper) , Julian Sands (Warlock), Kim Director (Blair Witch 2), Danny Trejo (Machete), Eli Roth (Inglourious Basterds) as the awesomely named Drac Cassidy and the man himself Glenn Danzig as Bad Bathory.

It seems we got some more gifts for the holidays! That’s right…

And if that isn’t enough for you, you can see couple more previews (all via Bloody-Disgusting. com– property of El Diablo Pictures) below:

Unexpectedly the rest of the cast seems equally impressive as Sands– with Devon Sawa (Casper, Final Destination) as Death Rider followed by likes of Danny Trejo (Machete), Lee Ving (Fear), Eli Roth (Inglorious Basterds), Kim Director (Blair Witch 2), Playboy centerfold Tasha Reign and even the main man himself Glenn Danzig (The Prophecy II) in a small role. Hopefully we won’t have to wait long for the first teaser.

We at WM have spoken about the fascinating phenomena of Bruceploitation (李小龙开采) cinema before but it seems that after almost 50 years of Bruce Lee ripoffs (and tributes) the trend still have some steam left in it.

Writer/ Director Romeo Candido (Second Jen, Another Life) has a new project called The Dragon Returns.

And as you might presume the plot of the movie involves Bruce Lee who after staging his own death (for some reason) has to save his friend and fellow Martial Artist Chuck Norris from imprisonment. With a plot like that I can’t wait to see what The Dragon Returns looks like! Also, I wonder what Chuck thinks about all of this.

I hope the movie poster looks exactly like this one!

The film will even be one of the 14 project in competition for financial rewards during the 5th International Film Festival in Macao (IFFAM) this December. I know we’ll be rooting for The Dragon Returns for sure.

We’ll  update you about this project as more information comes out and if you want to learn more about Bruceploitation you can get a quick history lesson right here.

Ring of Fury, Singapore’s answer to Bruce Lee’s Fist of Fury (and Big Boss) originally filmed in 1973 is finally available and can be viewed in full on Youtube!

Movie had a tumultuous release history. It was supposed to be a first real Singapore Martial Art flick but it wasn’t meant to be. It all started when the first time directors Tony Yeow and James Sebastian hired a local Kyokushin Karate trainer Peter Chung who repeatedly refused their offers citing that he doesn’t know anything about acting.

Still they persevered and in the end Chung relented. Armed with a shoestring budget and cast of unknowns they crafted a story of noodle-seller, Fei Pao, who seeks revenge on a group of thugs who murdered his mother (over unpaid protection money).

“We had a fight at the granite quarry in Bukit Timah and there wasn’t even a mattress on the ground. They said, ‘If you fall, you fall.’ And sometimes you might fall on small stones and it was painful.” said the star of the movie Peter Chung .

After things imploded, the unpaid star of the movie Peter Chong kept the only known copy of the film, 35mm print in his fridge wrapped in newspapers for decades hoping for it to be eventually released into the public! Ban was eventually lifted in 1994 (after losing some scenes of sex and violence) but movie would wait another 20+ years to be restored and released but it was finally screened at the Asian Restored Classics of 2017.

And now, even better- it’s finally available worldwide in full on the Asian Film Archive official Youtube channel (updated w/Archive.org). As a giant fan of the genre and especially the early 70s Martial Arts boom I know I will enjoy it, so let’s all give a watch to the Singapour’s fists Kung Fu movie:
