Much like his idol Frank W. Dux Argentinian born Hector Echavarria found himself crushed by his pathetic life and decided to do the only logical thing- invent a new one! He started from the begining fabricating an intricate backstory involving a Chinese Buddist monk saving his life (in Argentina?) and then training him in the secret art of Kung Fu. Then he invented mastership in anything and everything else (Shury-ryu , Kempo, Taekwondo, jiu-jitsu) culminating in completely bogus Kickboxing title!!!  In the age before internet if you could talk a good talk- you really had it made (at least for a little while).

He used his Martial Arts fame to get into the movies starting with small parts and culminating in a role in popular Latino comedies of the 80’s- Los Extermineitors 1,2 and 3. At the height of his popularity
trying to prove his outlandish stories he went so far that he payed random people to “fight” him to defend his unexciting Kickboxing title. Here’s what his opponent had to say about that-  In Midsummer holiday, Superdome was filled with 2,700 people. I talked with Héctor, angry with him, I told him “for what world title are we going to fight if you do not have a world title?”, I was free, I wanted to pull back and representative told me that I better not because there was already much money invested. And as it was a big event I went along with it because there were many things lined up such as TV transmission of the fight, press, conference, radio and other stuff, but I did not agree and I told him that once everything ends I was going to talk to the Federation because of his lies about the  world title and Hector told me it was all a show, and that people knew. For me it was all very confusing.”

Of course after multiple stunts like that people grew suspicious and he was found out for what he really is. Devastated again he retaliated by deciding that he’ll rather be a star in the States than a clown in Argentina and left his home never to come back again!

Hector defending his “title” from a medical student he found at the local gym, hard fight for any champion!

He finally moved to California in the early 2000’s and that’s where our story truly begins. Using his previous movie and TV experience in his home country he presented himself as a supreme Latino Action Hero (worthy of the comicbooks and toys made on his image) to Tapout (premier MMA clothing, training gear, and accessories brand). Now, Tapout like any other firm from L.A. wanted to branch out into movies and they saw Hector as their opportunity to do just that.  Tapout brought “Rampage” Jackson,  B.J. Penn, Georges St-Pierre and Anderson Silva- and Hector brought his Latino swag (coupled with his non-existing directing skills, poor martial art choreography and acting comparable to the abilities of an extra on a Mexican Telenovela set).

In less than 2  years we’ve got no less than five “masterpieces” like  Never Surrender  starring Hector as a humble grand master thrust into the sexy and dangerous world of underground MMA fighting. Then Hell’s Chain starring as a prizefighter haunted by a tragedy in the ring.  He then followed it with Death Warrior a movie about a group of athletes forced to fight to the death and Unrivaled where he’s portraying Argentinian kick boxer, working  two jobs to make ends meet getting one last shot at the title.

Here the director of Never Surrender talks how he is embarrassed to film sex scene in the movie, Hector doesn’t seem to share that problem.

Unfortunately his film career hit a sudden halt in 2012 (somebody figured out couple of things about our hero) and his newest masterpiece Duel of the Legends  featuring the legendary bad guy (and a legitimate Martial Art badass) Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa still remains unpublished  as of 2014. On the other hand his imdb page lists three more projects ( Hunters, Los Muertos, No Way Out) for 2015 so if we’re lucky we can expect to be further entertained by his unique brand of fake Martial Arts, soft core sex scenes and established MMA fighters looking confused and out of place. He is also promising to host a grand Martial Arts tournament and write autobiography of his exploits but we’ll just have to wait and see.

Trivia: George St-Pierre, a  former welterweight champion of UFC, now successfully transitioning into acting (Batroc in Captain America: Winter Soldier and Kavi in the Kickboxer: Vengeance) started his career in Hector’s vehicle Never Surrender playing his on- screen brother. Unfortunately he was heavily dubbed afterwords so obviously Hector wasn’t impressed with his performance.

SamuraiCop2

Things are obviously moving along quite nicely as Matt Hannon and Mindy Robinson go trough the rigorous fight training. Matt’s Samurai chops look better than ever and he even found the time to hang out with the UFC Hall of Famer and Expendables franchise alumni Randy “The Natural” Couture.

’cause he’s finally done with cyborgs (Cyborg Nemesis) seemingly always present on our blog-Albert Pyun decided to return to his epic roots (Sword and the Sorcerer) in a 300 style retelling of Napoleon’s conquests starting Jean Claude freakin’ Van Damme!!! Now this is what I call news!

Sample page!

Since early 2000’s Pyun seemed satisfied to work on more experimental and almost zero budget films but now he finally decided to work on something more on the commercial side. Does he still got it? I don’t know but he even plans to film it in Bulgaria’s NU Boyana studios ( one of the largest European studios where they filmed 300: Rise of the Empire, Expendables 2 and 3). Van Damme still has a final saying and of course something like this is not easy to finance but for the sheer WTF factor- I would watch this in a heart beat!

After a shocking revelation that Matt Hannon the actor behind the Joe Marshall aka Samurai Cop is still alive (link) we finally have the official confirmation of the sequel Samurai Cop 2: Deadly Vengeance! Not only that but there’s also a chance to participate in the making of the film with Kickstarter campaign that just started. Matt Hannon (Joe Marshall) and Mark Frazer (Frank Washington) alongside Melissa Moore (Peggy)  and Gerald Okamura (Okamura) reprise their roles from the original and we also get some fun addition in the form of former James Bond George Lazenby, playmate and adult actress Lexy Belle and Mindy Robinson from Pain & Gain and V/H/S/2 .

While everyone is discussing their ideal cast for female Expendables flick (something along the lines of  Sigourney Weaver and Milla Jovovich) Asylum film decided to go one step beyond that. Yes, they are (almost ingeniously) ripping of a movie that hasn’t been made yet (and it won’t come out ’till 2015 at best). And I mean who needs Jolie or Jovovich when you can get Cyntia Rothrock, Vivica A. Fox (now a Asylum regular)  and Brigitte Nielsen. Right?

Anyway movie looks well enough for (extremely low budget) standards of Asylum and there’s nothing wrong in checking this out while we wait for the real thing. If nothing else you have to respect the  sheer audacity of those Asylum guys.

Cast of course spans several decades of female B movie stars and is rounded up by (famed stuntwoman) Zoe Bell, ex- Terminator chick and Uwe Boll’s favorite Kristanna Loken and Korean-American TV star Nicole Bilderback. Movie will be officially released August 8, and for any additional information you can visit http://www.theasylum.cc/product.php?id=257

samurai-7Z’Darr VS Hannon, the fight for the ages!

Legendary Matt Hannon the star of Samurai Cop and antagonist of American Revenge long presumed dead finally found the time to speak up and clear the air. Matt Hannon is in fact alive and well, living under the assumed name and looking good as ever. He hit the web and officially refuted reports of his death (accepted as a fact for more than a few years)  one week ago and now he’s back with some more killer stuff. There’s even some steam brewing’ on a possible follow-up (Samurai Cop 2:  Deadly Vengence ). Anyway, we want to thank the Daughter of the Samurai- Courtney. She heroically convinced her father to come clean and let us know that Samurai is still kicking ass and all our lives are richer because of it. Now, we’re eagerly awaiting further development.

Part I

Part II

…and now for the old times sake!

Letting you read our first ever review (Zone of the Dead) was in part a history lesson but also a sign of things to come.We are just now …years later ready for a sequel of the first Serbian zombie flick this time with inclusion of a local star Katarina Radivojevic  (Zona Zamfirova) as the witch (part not unlike the one she already played in under appreciated Tears for Sale) and returning star Ken Foree. The first glimpse into the Wrath of the Dead provides serious progress as far as the atmosphere goes (and it even touches on the nostalgia with rock hit from the Yugoslavia days, “Jutro ce promeniti sve” by Indexi ) but it looses a bit of momentum with crude (Iron Maiden’s) Eddie- like make-up effect and almost straight Walking Dead rip off scene that follows. Without the further introduction- Wrath of the Dead!

P.S.  Just to mention that soundtrack will be by Nikola Jeremic, known for his failures in Six Days of Dark, Mamula and some other crappy animated movies which are used only by international terrorists as torturing method.

We are in the middle of the new Cold War between Russia and USA and movies naturally reflect that- especially the new Casper Van Dien (Starship Troopers, Mortal Kombat: Legacy) vehicle Higher Mission. In this movie produced by Gray Ferdricsen (The Godfather, Apocalypse Now) we get almost equal  intriguing 3D spectacle about… wait for it… United States Senator with an important mission, to stop the corrupted politicians of Russia before they get turned into giant mutated rats!!! I’m pretty sure you didn’t see this one coming.

higher-missionNo higher mission than this man, none!

What better way to celebrate the historic Wrestlemania XXX than with the Wrestlemania regular The Undertaker fighting monstrous Brock Lesnar, freshly returned Batista fighting Randy Orton for the title and hell- even the original wrestling superstar Hulk Hogan (absent from the WWE for almost a decade),  then André the Giant Memorial Battle Royal  featuring 30 superstars… and also Scooby- Doo cartoon crossover? Wait! s this for real… I mean REALLY !?

91BtRLqYXvL._SL1500_ Oh, the horror!

Yes it is, powers that be decided that it’s time to spice thing up and give children what they want and that’s apparently talking dog and John Cena combo. I know WWE tried to move away from the edgier content for a while but this is beyond absurd. Anyway you can “enjoy” in the first trailer, movie comes out March 25th and our review not long after that.

Also McMahon as a good guy for the first time in history!

Just for the record  we’d like to point out that we think Superman/ Bugs Bunny crossover was a better idea!
